Kin pleads for help as two from Telangana go missing in Thailand

Hyderabad: Two men from Telangana, who travelled to Thailand on visit visas in search of employment, have gone missing, their family member said.

According to their police complaint, the two men were last in contact on November 21. Shanigaram Aravind, a resident of Shetpally in Nizamabad district, and Konda Sagar, hailing from Atmakur in Jagtial district, flew from Mumbai to Bangkok on November 11 after paying `2 lakh each to an agent who promised them job opportunities.

On Tuesday, Jala, wife of Aravind, and Kashamma, wife of Sagar, approached the Pravasi Prajavani office in Hyderabad to file a formal complaint. Accompanying them were Congress NRI Cell leaders Dr B.M. Vinod Kumar, Manda Bheem Reddy and Chennamaneni Srinivasa Rao. The families alleged that the agent misled the men with promises of employment and demanded immediate action.

They appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for help tracing the missing men and holding the agent accountable. They demanded that a police case be registered against the agent for exploiting vulnerable job seekers. This incident is one of the perils of unregulated international employment practices and the exploitation of job seekers from rural areas.

Many job seekers have been falling prey to fraudulent agents, who exploit their aspirations for better opportunities abroad, often leaving them stranded or in precarious situations. The families have pleaded for urgent intervention from the state government to coordinate with Thai authorities and locate the missing men.
