Hyderabad:The Telangana rythu sangham has expressed concern over availability of fertilisers stating that their shortage when paddy grain is in formation stage will affect the produce. It sought strict measures against those guilty of increasing their prices by creating artificial scarcity and indulging in black marketing.
In a release here on Friday, it said that the state has cultivated crops over an area of 63.54 lakh acres in rabi 2024. Of this, paddy is on 50.66 lakh acres, millets on 8.91 lakh acres and pulses 2.97 lakh acres. These crops were sown between December 15 last year and February 10 and are in the grain formation stage and need urea for the process. In all 18 lakh tonnes of fertilisers are needed for the rabi season. The fertiliser quota is decided for the state every month and disbursed by the Centre but they are being sold in the black market. Urea, which should be sold for `280, is being priced at `320 in the black market. Farmers are being forced to buy bio fertilisers and insecticides. This will affect crop yield, the release said.
The agriculture, cooperative and marketing departments should work in tandem to ensure fertiliser availability, the release said.
