Nalgonda: Farmers of seven mandals in this district were elated that their decade-old dream of getting water for their farmland from Bhramana Vellamla Project (BVP) will soon turn into a reality.
The Udaya Samudram Lift Irrigation Scheme (USLIS) can lift 6.70 TMC of water from the foreshore of Udaya Samudram Balancing Reservoir (USBR) to irrigate one lakh acres and provide drinking water to 107 fluoride-hit villages in the upland areas.
Engineers have completed the trial run of motors and pump houses of Unit–I and Unit-II. Out of 6.500 km of left main canal, excavation work was completed for 5.5 km while the balance work is in progress. There would be 43,000 acres of ayacut under the left canal.
Out of 25.53 km of right main canal, excavation was completed for 9.070 km on the main canal while the rest is in progress. The ayacut under this canal would cover nearly 57,000 acres.
Executive engineer M. Srinivas Reddy said works on main components were almost completed. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the distributor channel through which Brahmana Vellamla Project will receive Krishna water on December 7. Kirshna water would be lifted from Udhyasamudram Balancing Reservoir at Pangal for this purpose, he added.
Dubba Krishna, a native of Choudampally in Narketpally mandal, said his village is located within two km radius of Brahmana Vellamla Project. The ground water level would definitely improve after filling of the project with Krishna waters. He hoped that farmers would get irrigation facility through canals.
Chukka Linga Swamy, a native farmer of Enuguladori village of Narketpally mandal, said he has been depending on rain for his two acres. He incurred huge losses due to lack of rains.
Cherukupally Suresh, a farmer of Chowdampally, said he hopes the Congress government will provide irrigation facility to farmers by completing the works of the canals on Brahmana Vellamla Project.
