Hyderabad: In spite of BRS leaders' allegations that the Congress government’s farm loan scheme has not been implemented properly, the farming community in Gajwel, former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s constituency, and Siddipet that former minister T. Harish Rao represents, are giving thumbs up to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s scheme.
Farmers from these two constituencies praised the government for waiving farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh. Though a few farmers were not listed due to technical glitches, they believe in the government's honest effort and expect their loans to be waived as soon as possible.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a young farmer, Pittala Balakrishna from Mailaram in Chinnakodur mandal of Siddipet constituency, said that his loan of Rs 1.3 lakh had been waived. The farmer also mentioned that over 70 per cent of the farmers have received loan waivers.
Some farmers who had loans exceeding Rs 2 lakh were disqualified from the waiver. Additionally, others faced technical issues related to the waiver procedure, preventing them from receiving the benefit.
Farmer Mokkilla Goverdhan Reddy from Peddalingareddypally in Siddipet constituency, said that the Congress government had waived the loans of most farmers in the village.
“My loan of Rs 65,000 was not waived. I approached government officials and submitted all the information they sought,” he said.
Goverdhan Reddy was among those who never got the Rs 1 lakh loan waiver announced by the previous BRS government. He explained that he had a loan of Rs 80,000. The previous BRS government waived Rs 50,000, leaving a remaining amount of Rs 30, that grew to Rs 65,000 with interest. “I expected that this would be waived but due to technical glitches my old loan remains. I hope this government will sort it out.”
Rajashekar from Kondapak in the Gajwel constituency said, “Our family is a beneficiary of the Congress government’s loan waiver scheme. My father took a Rs 70,000 loan from a bank for cultivation. Now we are debt-free, thanks to the government. I can see the happiness on my father’s face.”
He added that some farmers ere reaching out to officials to ask why they weren't included in the loan waiver. He expressed hope that other farmers will also be included in the scheme.
Subbena Lingam from Choudaram said that he wasn't included in the scheme because he had a Rs 3 lakh farm loan. The farmer and vegetable vendor added that, however, his family was benefiting from the free electricity and cooking gas schemes.
