Suryapet: Farmers of flood-affected areas narrated their woes to a team of the Central government officials who are accessing the damage caused to crops in the state due to the recent heavy rains. They also requested help from the central government in addition to the state government.
The Central compriing Col. K.P. Singh, Mahesh Kumar and Shanthinath Shivappa visited Gondrirala, Thogarai and Kagithapu Ramachandrapuram, which were badly affected due to heavy rains in the district and interacted with the farmers.
Showing the damaged crops and sand piled up on agricultural fields, the farmers informed the team that cultivation was taken up by borrowing money from the banks and private moneylenders.
Gourapu Ravi, a native of Gondriyala, explained to them that his house had collapsed due to the incessant rains. He said even furniture and electronic goods in the house were also damaged.
The team members assured the farmers that they would explain the different types of losses in their report, which would be submitted to the Centre.
They also examined the damaged houses in the flood-affected villages and examined the place where breach occurred to the left canal of Nagarjunasagar Project.
The team instructed officials of the irrigation department to take up the repair at the breach of Nagarjunasagar left canal and provide irrigation facilities to the farmers. They also suggested the irrigation department officials take up lining of the canal to avoid the breaches in future.
