Floods Creates Rs 339.46 Crore Damage in Khammam District

Khammam: The loss caused by heavy rain and floods has been placed at `339.46 crore in Khammam district. A report prepared by the district authorities says agricultural crops were damaged 73,740 acres, valued at `103.74 crore and belonging to 39,319 farmers.

Horticultural crops were damaged in 79,914 acres that caused a loss of `118.87 crore to 5,352 farmers, the report said.

According to the report, 52,648 cattle and livestock including 20 cows, eight calves, 65 buffaloes, 242 sheep, 100 goats, 52,153 poultry and 60 pigs died, causing a loss of `1.16 crore.

In addition, 66 school buildings were damaged and the cost of repairs was placed at `1.2 crore. The report said `30 lakh was required for repairing the damage caused to six hospital buildings. About 3,500 electricity poles and 570 transformers were affected due to floods and `7.73 crore required for their restoration.

The value of damage to infrastructure was estimated as `180.37 crore.
