Floodwater inundates Mannempally village as canal breaches in Karimnagar
Karimnagar: A breach in the D-4 canal carrying water from the Thotapalli reservoir to Manakondur inundated the SC Colony in Mannempally, Thimmapur mandal, early on Sunday morning.
Villagers struggled to leave their homes as floodwaters flowed heavily on the roads, cutting off access to help and relief efforts.
Residents accused authorities of neglect, alleging that temporary repairs to previous breaches failed to address the canal's structural issues. They demanded either high-quality repairs or relocation to safer areas.
Former village sarpanch M. Anjaiah stated that similar breaches had occurred over five times in the past, often due to poor maintenance and removal of sluice gates by farmers in the area.
Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay Kumar contacted district collector Pamela Satpathy and sought immediate relief measures. Congress MLA Dr Kavvampally Satyanarayana visited the site, inspected the damage, and assured that repairs would be undertaken urgently along with compensation for affected residents.
The flooding disrupted festival celebrations, leaving villagers to contend with its devastating impact.
