Food Poisoning at Nursing Hostel, 50 Students Affected

Hyderabad: A serious case of food poisoning has stirred up concern at a girls' hostel in Chandanagar, Hyderabad. The incident occurred at the Suman Hostel of Bansilal Malani College of Nursing, where several students fell ill after consuming food at the hostel.

The students who ate at the hostel started experiencing symptoms like vomiting and diarrhoea, leading to widespread alarm. Approximately 50 students were affected by food poisoning. The hostel management transported the ill students to a nearby private hospital for immediate treatment. Out of the 50 affected students, six are reported to be in critical condition, causing significant worry among their parents. The incident, which actually took place last Sunday, has only recently come to light.

Parents have expressed severe anger and concern over the hostel management's negligence. They criticised the hostel authorities for charging exorbitant fees while neglecting basic hygiene standards. The parents alleged that the hostel management has been careless, particularly in food preparation, and has failed to maintain cleanliness. Reports suggest that meals are being cooked in unsanitary conditions using substandard ingredients. Complaints have been raised about the cooking staff’s lack of hygiene and the use of contaminated water. It has also been noted that the cooking utensils are not properly cleaned, leading to instances of food poisoning.

Moreover, parents have accused the hostel management of serving stored food to students. Parents demanded stringent action against the hostel authorities, calling for measures to prevent such incidents from recurring. The hostel management and warden were unavailable for comment.
