Food safety dept raids Madhapur hostels and PGs, finds expired food

Hyderabad: As part of an ongoing drive against food safety violations, the Telangana Food Safety Department conducted raids on private hostels and paying guest accommodations (PGs) in Madhapur on Sunday. Sri Lakshmi PG Hostel, Kavuri Hills, VG Homestay in Madhapur, Narayana Medical Academy, and Narayana Society hostel in Madhapur were found violating food safety norms.

The Narayana Medical Academy, Madhapur, was operating without an FSSAI licence. Besides, there was no FOSTAC supervisor among the employees, the water dispensers were rusted, and the serving area was unclean, the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, said.
The Narayana Society, Madhapur, was found with expired white gravy (2 kg) and chopped masala (2 kg). Just like the Medical Academy, there was no FOSTAC supervisor among the staff. The dosa pan was unhygienic and rusted, and multiple hygiene issues were observed in the kitchen area, including an untidy grinding area with a high risk of contamination. The open drainage, garbage storage area, and wash area were also found to be unhygienic.
VG Homestay, a PG in Madhapur, was also found to be operating without an FSSAI licence and using food colours. The dosa tawa was rusted, and raw materials and vegetables were in an unsanitary condition. The refrigerator was unhygienic, and workers were found without hairnets. Spot tests for drinking water, vinegar, chilli sauce, and tomato sauce showed acceptable parameters. However, a loose chilli powder sample was taken on suspicion of adulteration.
Similarly, Sri Lakshmi PG Hostel in Kavuri Hills was operating without an FSSAI licence. Vegetables such as cauliflower and ladies' fingers were found to be infested with pests, and the dosa pan was rusted. The work area was unhygienic, with improper storage of rice and dals along with mattresses.
