Food Safety Violations Found in Shamshabad Restaurants

Hyderabad: Inspections by the food commissioner’s task force in Shamshabad uncovered several food safety violations at some establishments. At Hotel Hyderabad Grand, inspectors found the FSSAI true licence copy not displayed prominently.

Several expired food articles, including red chili sauce, sweet chili sauce, coconut milk, rose water, fish masala, and thyme, were discarded on the spot. Twenty kg of dust tea and two kg of BBQ sauce were seized for labelling violations.

Synthetic food colours were discarded. Semi-prepared foods lacked proper labelling with preparation and expiration dates. Medical fitness certificates for food handlers and water analysis reports for RO water were missing, though pest control records were available, the task force said.

The Yes Bawarchi Multicuisine Restaurant faced similar issues. The total dissolved solids of drinking water was found to be 24, far below the mandated minimum of 75. Synthetic food colours were discarded, and semi-prepared and raw foods were neither labelled nor covered.

Rat faeces indicated a possible infestation, and windows lacked insect-proof screens. The kitchen had flaking plaster and uneven flooring. Pest control records and medical fitness certificates were also absent.

At Airport Bawarchi Restaurant, the FSSAI licence was displayed, but pest control records and medical fitness certificates were missing. The kitchen lacked insect-proof screens, and food articles in the refrigerator and on display were not labeled, the task force stated.
