Forest wing swings into action to save tigers, people
Warangal: In the wake of a tiger roaming the forested regions near the Godavari and Pranahita rivers, the forest department has taken extensive measures to protect both residents and the big cat in the villages surrounding Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts.
On December 10, farmers heading to their chilli fields on the outskirts of Alubaka village found tiger footprints. Meanwhile, farmers from Bodhapuram village, who were sleeping in their watermelon fields, reported hearing the tiger’s roar.
Animal tracker teams discovered additional tiger footprints in the Pambapur forest area on December 12. On December 13, a farmer named Jabba Pottaiah informed forest officials that he had seen a tiger in the Bommaigudem forest near Kothur Motlagudem village in Mangapet mandal.
Under the supervision of Kaleshwaram Zone PCCF Prabhakar, forest officers followed the tiger’s footprints for about 8 km through the dense forests of Rampur, Bireli, and Ankampalli. The team thoroughly searched the area to determine if the tiger had found water or hunted any prey.
Officials stated that the tiger appears to be searching for a suitable resting area. Since it has not yet found an ideal habitat, it continues to move from one forest to another.
Under the leadership of Mulugu district forest officer Rahul Kishan Jadhav, special teams have been deployed to monitor the tiger’s movements and alert villagers in the vicinity.
The forest department has cautioned shepherds, farmers, and others not to venture into the forest or move about alone. Residents have been advised to remove any traps or electric fencing set up to protect their fields. Officials have warned that strict action will be taken under the Wildlife Protection Act if anyone attempts to harm the tiger.
