Drama at ACB office: KTR arrives and exits without appearing for questioning

Bureau officials bar presence of advocates beside him

Hyderabad:It was an anti-climax to a drama that lasted 40 minutes, the time that BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, and his advocates, spent around the head office of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on being summoned for questioning here on Monday. He made an exit without actually appearing before the agency after the officials refused to allow any advocate alongside Rao during his questioning.

Later, the MLA sent a letter explaining that the case was pending before the High court and hence sub-judice. He went to the BRS office from there.

Undeterred by the development, the agency officials served a fresh notice asking Rama Rao to appear before the agency for questioning on January 9 without his legal team. They stated that they needed to get crucial information from him in connection with the Formula E race irregularities.

Amid dramatic scenes, Rama Rao was near the bureau office by around 9.55 am. At the makeshift barricade, the police personnel on duty informed him that ACB officials had directed them to only allow him (Rama Rao) and not his advocates into the office.

Later, Rama Rao sent a letter addressed to the investigation officer Majid Khan through his advocates stating that the petition filed by him before the High Court is reserved for judgment and it could be pronounced any time.

"However, in your (ACB) notice you have not given details of the information and documents sought from me pertaining to the case. You are requested to give details of the documents sought from me pertaining to the case to take further necessary action at my end after giving reasonable time for the same. Being a law-abiding citizen, I will cooperate in the matter subject to constitutional and legal rights as provided by law," Rao said in his letter to ACB.

By evening, ACB officials went to his residence at Raidurgam and pasted notices on the main door asking Rao to appear before the agency on January 9 for questioning without any legal teams.
