Four lakh LRS applications likely to be rejected
Hyderabad: Nearly four lakh applications received under the Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) are likely to be rejected as they were found to be in illegal layouts located on government land, lake beds and public open spaces during the initial scrutiny of applications, official sources in the revenue department said.
The government has formed multi-disciplinary teams in each district composed of officials from revenue, irrigation, municipal and panchayat raj departments to scrutinise the 25.7 lakh applications. The teams conducted field-level inspection and determined the applications which are eligible for regularisation.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy have directed instructions to officials to ensure that no government land is encroached upon under the guise of LRS.
Srinivas Reddy on Saturday directed officials to complete the LRS process within three months.
Accordingly, the teams began primary screening of applications and found that nearly four lakh applications were ineligible. They are expected to submit a report to the government recommending rejection of these applications.
The previous BRS government had launched the LRS in 2020 to regularise unapproved layouts and open plots. It received received 25.7 lakh applications between August 31 and October 31, 2020.
Of this, applications from gram panchayats accounted for 10.76 lakh, municipalities 10.54 lakh and municipal corporations 4.13 lakh. The state government earned nearly `250 crore through the application fees alone.
The government had received 1.06 lakh applications in GHMC limits, 1.01 lakh applications in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits and 50,000 applications in Khammam Municipal Corporation limits.
Each applicant paid `1,000 for a small plot and `10,000 for layouts for regularisation. Soon after collecting the fees, the previous BRS government halted the process citing legal issues.
The Congress government which assumed office in December 2023 has decided to complete the pending LRS process.
