The Telangana government on Thursday decided to free travel to students appearing for NEET-UG re-exam on June 21 in the state-run RTC buses.State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said.

Hyderabad: The state government on Thursday announced free travel in TGSRTC buses for students appearing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) re-examination scheduled on June 21. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting here, providing relief to nearly 2.95 lakh students expected to appear for the examination at around 2,008 centres.
NEET aspirants will need to show their examination hall tickets to avail of the service.
The move follows a representation made by National Students Union of India (NSUI) president Yadavalli Venkatswamy and other student leaders, who met transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the Secretariat on June 16. They pointed out that a large number of students from rural areas have to travel to cities, including Hyderabad, to appear for the examination. Prabhakar said directions had been issued to the RTC managing director to implement the decision.
The issue also came up during a bus journey undertaken by ministers Adluri Laxman Kumar and Ponnam Prabhakar on June 17. The ministers travelled in a TGSRTC bus from Thimmapur in Manakondur mandal to Karimnagar and interacted with students, women and other passengers. During the journey, several students and parents requested the government to extend the free bus travel facility to NEET candidates.
Taking note of these representations, Prabhakar raised the issue during the Cabinet meeting on Thursday and appealed to the Council of Ministers to take a positive decision. The Cabinet accepted the minister’s proposal.
