Full Water Supply for Kharif, Rabi: Ponguleti
Khammam: The project ayacut farmers would get water supply for both the crop seasons this year as irrigation projects were bemiring with water, said minister for revenue and housing Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday while releasing water to the left main canal from Palair reservoir at Kusumanchi in Khammam district.
The minister informed that the irrigation tanks in Palaiar constituency were not full despite the heavy rains and that's why 500 cusecs of water were being released to the left main canal from Palair reservoir to fill these tanks. The Palair reservoir can irrigate 2.75 lakh acres in Telangana and 1.2 lakh acres in Andhra Pradesh.
The minister reminded the farmers that water was not released for crops last season due to water shortage in irrigation projects. “By God’s grace, this year, water levels in all irrigation projects in Telangana reached Full Tank Level and farmers will get water for two crops in Indiramma rajyam,” he stated.
The minister announced that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the Sitarama project on August 15, and the project will provide irrigation water to farmers of the Khammam district when Krishna water is not available.
