Hyderabad:The Gachibowli police registered a case and detained 108 outsiders, and a student from the University of Hyderabad (UoH), on Thursday. While the outsiders, mostly from political parties, were taken into preventive custody, a case was registered against the student for allegedly damaging public property.
All of them including the student, were released by the police in the evening.
According to Gachibowli police, the complaint was lodged by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), which alleged that the student destroyed an excavator on the campus.
The Cyberabad police also denied reports that its personnel had caned students during protests on the university campus, following the release of several videos of the incident.
In a press release, the police said a few persons in the group of protesting students were “pushed away” and that both men and women police personnel on duty tried to snatch the rope they were holding with “bare minimum force.”
On the day the incident had occurred, Madhapur ACP sustained injuries. Police had taken 53 persons into preventive custody on Monday.
