Game Changer’s benefit shows, ticket price hike revoked
Hyderabad: The home department shelved the ticket price hike and special shows of the Ram Charan-starrer Game Changer, issuing an order on Saturday. The order will be effective only after Sankranti, from January 16, and will be applicable for future screenings.
The government had to rethink its earlier decision after the Telangana High Court expressed its dissatisfaction of allowing hiked ticket prices and holding shows at unearthly hours.
After the death of a woman in a stampede at Sandhya theatre at RTC crossroads in December, the government has promised not to allow any benefit shows in the future. But when the production house Sri Venkateshwara Creations requested the home department to increase the ticket prices and permit benefit shows, the government agreed with a condition to play advertisements on the effects of narcotics during the shows.
Senior journalist Satish Kamal, president, Telangana Journalists Forum, had approached the High Court challenging the government’s decision to enhance ticket rates and allow special shows for ‘Game Changer’.
However, the government withdrew the orders on Saturday. The order read, “Further in compliance with the directions of the High Court, it is decided that early morning shows in the future will not be permitted until public interest, health and safety are duly considered.”
