Gang Steals Rs 1.2 Cr in Gold, Arrests Made in Domalguda
Hyderabad: Police arrested one Indrajit Ghorai for masterminding a theft at the house of his brother Ranjit in Domalguda on December 12. Indrajit, advocate Mohammed Noor Ullah and eight others attacked Ranjit at his house and stole 2 kg gold and other property worth Rs 1.2 crore, police commissioner C.V. Anand said.
Police said Indrajit Ghorai bore a grudge that his brother was doing well in life. Indrajit shared his plan to rob his brother with two persons named Altaf Mohammed Khan and Syed Irfan Ahmed, who agreed to form a gang for the purpose.
Advocate Noor Ullah reportedly chalked out the plan and directed his associates to recce the place. The four later recruited the other accused, Althaf, Habeeb Hussain, Arbaz and Shabbir.
On the night of December 12, the gang armed themselves and went to the house of the victim in a car whose number plate they had removed. Once there, they attacked the inmates and made off with the gold.
Anand said the booty had been recovered and handed over to the Domalguda police, along with the accused.
19-Year-Old Student Dies by Suicide at Hostel in RGIA
A 19-year-old student died by allegedly by suicide at a hostel on Saturday evening, RGIA police said on Sunday. RGIA inspector K. Balaraju said the victim, Avish, was a student of Vardhaman College and was staying in a hostel.
It was suspected that Avish was under academic pressure. Avish died by suicide when he was alone in his room.
His room-mate found the body upon returning. On Saturday evening, Avish’s parents received a call from the hostel informing them of his death by suicide. The parents informed the police, who registered a case and commenced investigations.
Private Company Employee Murdered in Bowenpally
Unidentified persons waylaid and murdered a private company employee, Mohammed Sameer, 28, in Bowenpally early on Sunday, police said. Five assailants, riding on two bikes, stopped Sameer, stabbed him with daggers and fled.
Police said that it might have been a honour killing. Sameer a few months back fell in love and married a girl against the wishes of her family, and was staying in a rented house, police said.
Police suspect that the girl's family members might have murdered Sameer. Four persons have been reportedly taken into custody for questioning. The victim’s body after postmortem at Gandhi Hospital mortuary was handed over to his family.
Unidentified Attack on Place of Worship in Moinabad
Unidentified persons attacked by place of worship on Friday, Moinabad inspector G. Pavan Kumar Reddy said. The incident came to light on Saturday when the temple was being opened. Police have registered a case and started investigations. Police said there were no CCTV cameras at the spot.
Short Circuit Causes Fire at Hyderabad Dry Cleaning Shop
A fire erupted at a dry cleaning shop at about 8 am on Sunday, damaging dresses given by dozens of customers, Rajendranagar police said. According to Rajendranagar station fire officer V. Chandra Naik, the fire erupted as a result of a short circuit. The flames were doused within an hour. An approximate property loss of Rs 1.5 lakh was reported. No case was registered as a police complaint was not lodged.
Dairy Units in Hyderabad Cited for Hygiene and Safety Lapses
The state task force team during raids uncovered lapses in hygiene and safety standards at dairy units. At Durga Dairy Products in Sultan Bazaar, inspectors identified flaky ceilings, patchy flooring and inadequate drainage. The unit was found storing expired artificial flavuoring agents, including vanilla and lemon concentrates, some of which had expired as far back as 2020. Additional lapses included improperly fitted doors, allowing pest entry, and food handlers working without haircaps.
At NR Milk House in Rahatnagar, Amberpet, rusty iron sheets formed part of the internal structure, and the premises were riddled with patchy, uneven flooring, water stagnation, and a foul smell. A toilet opening directly into the manufacturing area was identified as a critical contamination risk.
The inspection revealed unsanitary conditions, with pests such as house flies, mosquitoes, and cockroaches present, along with waste materials dumped indiscriminately on the floor. Food handlers lacked aprons, headgear, and shoe covers, and spitting was observed in the unit.
