Ganja plants cultivated in agricultural land destroyed in Sangareddy

Hyderabad: The Prohibition and Excise department destroyed ganja plants cultivated in 30 guntas agricultural land at Marivelli village in Batpally mandal in Sangareddy district on Friday.

Following information that a villager was found to be cultivating ganja in his land, an enforcement team led by Excise Inspector C Veena Reddy examined the premises and found ganja plants. The plants were cultivated in the middle of cotton and chilli crops.

The team immediately destroyed the plants from the field. On coming to know about it, the land pass book holder G Chinna Narsimhulu came to the field and claimed that the ganja plants were cultivated to use it while doing ‘bhanjans’ in the temple in the village.

He tried to convince the excise team saying that the ganja cultivation was not meant for sale. However, the team ignored his pleas and removed the plants from the field. The excise department booked a case against the pass book holder under the relevant provisions of Excise Act and took up further investigation.
