Hyderabad Airport To Operationalise Second Cargo Terminal To Handle 50,000 MT Annually
The launching of cargo terminal marks a transformational milestone in the airport’s strategic growth as a world-class air cargo and logistics destination

Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad is set to operationalise its second cargo terminal as part of efforts to strengthen its position as a global air cargo and logistics hub. Cargo Terminal 2, spread across 16,864 sqm, will initially handle around 50,000 metric tonnes of cargo per annum and is aimed at meeting rising domestic and international demand. The facility is designed to serve airlines, freight forwarders, logistics operators and regulatory agencies.
Airport authorities said a key feature of the terminal is a fully temperature-controlled pharma zone, built to handle pharmaceutical and perishable cargo. The facility is equipped with temperature cut-off systems and continuous monitoring technology to ensure cold-chain integrity, supporting Hyderabad’s pharmaceutical sector.
Kadhir Kadhiravan, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited, said, “The commissioning of Cargo Terminal 2 is a defining moment for GHIAL and for Hyderabad’s rise as a leading air cargo and logistics gateway in Asia. The facility is not just an addition to our infrastructure, but a statement of intent. It has been built to handle demanding cargo, from life-saving pharmaceuticals to time-critical express consignments, with the precision, speed and reliability required by global supply chains. This terminal will play a key role in delivering world-class cargo infrastructure, driving regional economic growth and placing Hyderabad firmly on the global logistics map.”
