GHMC issues dos and don’ts to all eateries
Hyderabad:In its bid to reduce food adulteration incidents, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued an advisory to all eateries in its jurisdiction. This specifies guidelines for maintenance of hygiene and sanitation, and mandates every establishment having a seating capacity of over 50 to install CCTV cameras in the kitchen and dining areas.
As a further deterrent against errant establishments, the corporation will disclose their names and details of the violation prominently across media platforms, including ‘X’.
“Revealing names of establishments selling unhygienic food has increased awareness and ensured better compliance,” said a GHMC official.
A visit to some outlets in the city revealed that unclean kitchens and raw material stored in most unhygienic conditions were the most common violations, including by ‘premium’ hotels, bars and pubs.
As of October 31, food safety officials made 9,886 inspections this year and overall slapped `25,46,001 penalty on eateries. In addition, 1,588 rectification notices were also served.
The corporation’s food safety wing has launched a drive to bring all street food vendors into the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) net by issuing registration certificates.
Around 2,500 registration certificates were issued to hawkers and street food vendors and the process is under way, said an official from the civic body.
