Golconda Bonalu Festival to Begin on July 7

Hyderabad: The Golconda Bonalu festival will commence on Sunday, July 7, this year. Celebrated on the Sunday following Amavasya of the Telugu month Ashadam, this vibrant festival will span about a month, with festivities every Thursday and Sunday at the Jagadambika Yellamma Talli temple in the Golconda Fort.

Hundreds of devotees flock to the fort to partake in this unique regional celebration. At the Golconda temple, the Bonalu festival lasts for nine days. It begins with a "Uregimpu" (procession), followed by a Bonam procession from Banjara Darwaza and the Vigrahapeetam ritual, during which idols of deities are established.

Following the Golconda Bonalu, the festival continues with the Secunderabad Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu and Lal Darwaja Mahankali Bonalu in Hyderabad city. Devotees from across the erstwhile districts of Telangana attend these celebrations.

The Endowment Department is set to establish a new Trust Board for the Golconda Bonalu, as the tenure of the current committee has expired. Officials have stated that a notification regarding this will be released in the next two to three days.
