Goshamahal road caves in yet again for 6th time, thrice in 2025
Chaknawadi roads have been caving in since December 2022

Hyderabad: For the sixth consecutive time, Goshamahal’s Chaknawadi road caved in on Sunday. While undergoing repairs, the road collapsed early Sunday morning. Although no one was hurt and no property damage occurred, Chaknawadi residents are furious over GHMC’s inadequate response to the recurring issue.
Residents stated that the road caved in early Sunday. “This is the third time the road has collapsed in one and a half months. Workers were carrying out repair work on Saturday. Just three to four hours after they left, the road caved in again. It could have been a major accident if the road had caved in while the workers were still there,” said Kamlesh Jain, a vendor.
Chaknawadi roads have been caving in since December 2022. Since then, the road has collapsed five times. It is built over a drainage canal, and the deteriorating condition of the ancient drainage system is causing the roads laid on top of it to cave in repeatedly.
Although no one has been injured in any of the incidents, there have been several close calls. In 2022, a road collapse swallowed several vendor carts, autos, bikes, and a car. In July 2024, a truck driving over the road got partially trapped when the road caved in, though the driver escaped unhurt. On January 10, a cement truck fell entirely into the pit, with the driver managing to escape again.
Residents are living in fear, saying that a major accident is imminent. They blame GHMC for its negligence in properly repairing the roads on time.
