Govt plans special Assembly session on Feb 7 to approve caste census report

Hyderabad:The state government is planning to hold a special session of the Legislative Assembly on February 7 to table, discuss and approve the caste census report. However, it is yet to be confirmed officially. Official sources said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had discussed this issue.
According to plan, the caste census report will be submitted to the Cabinet sub-committee on February 2. The Chief Minister is planning to hold a Cabinet meeting on February 5 to discuss and approve caste census. Later, he will table the caste census report in the Legislative Assembly on February 7.
However, there is some uncertainty over holding a Cabinet meeting and the special Assembly session as the model code of conduct for MLC elections has come into force.
The Election Commission of India issued the schedule for elections to a graduate and two teachers constituencies of the Legislative Council on Wednesday and the election code, which came into force with immediate effect, will remain until March 8.
Against this backdrop, there is no clarity on whether the state government can approve and release the caste census report in the Cabinet meeting and in the Assembly.
The state government had conducted a comprehensive door-to-door caste census across all districts in November and December to determine the socio, economic and political representation of each caste. The caste census process has been completed and the final report has been prepared.
The government also constituted a dedicated BC Commission to determine the political representation for BCs in local bodies. The panel will utilise the data of caste census to recommend enhancement of reservations to BCs proportionate to their population.
