Govt. school HM takes no leaves in 2024

Karimnagar: Unlike most employees entitled to 15 days of annual leave without salary deductions, Dr Chakinala Srinivas, headmaster of a government high school, chose not to take a single day off throughout 2024, earning widespread admiration in Rajanna Sircilla district.

Srinivas' commitment to his school has made him a role model for colleagues, students, and fellow educators. His dedication reflects his belief in prioritising duties and inspiring others through example.
When Srinivas was first posted as headmaster of the Government High School in Shivanagar, Sircilla town, in 2009, the school had around 500 students. However, upon his return in 2018, student numbers had plummeted to just 50. Undeterred, Srinivas took this as a challenge and worked tirelessly to revive the institution. Today, the school serves 301 students, thanks to his efforts.
With support from alumni, Srinivas provided bicycles, school bags, and clean drinking water to students. He ensured teachers adhered to strict schedules, classes followed structured timetables, and the syllabus was thoroughly covered. His efforts significantly improved education quality and student performance.
Srinivas’ record of leave usage underscores his dedication: in 2020, he took one day of leave, five days in 2021, four in 2022, one in 2023, and none in 2024. During summer holidays, he conducted special English language classes and encouraged student participation in district and state-level competitions, leading to increased trust among parents and a steady rise in enrollment.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Srinivas credited his family for supporting his decision not to take leave. He planned all personal functions, occasions, and travel during holidays, ensuring he never missed a working day. He highlighted the ample holidays provided to educators, including major festivals and summer breaks, as sufficient for personal time.
Srinivas’ dedication earned him the state-level 'Best Teacher' award in 2022. That same year, his students won first prize in the Telangana State Food Commission competitions, and in 2023, three students were selected for the prestigious Basara Triple IT programme, marking a significant achievement for the school.
