Gulf Workers’ Special Grievances Cell Opens in Telangana
Hyderabad: Haseena, wife of a Gulf employee from Suryapet, on Friday received an assurance of help from the state government. She said: “My husband went to Kuwait early this year, but his employer is not allowing him to return. My husband is suffering.”
Haseena was one of the many people who presented their grievances at a special cell launched at the Praja Bhavan by minister Ponnam Prabhakar. The cell is meant to help Gulf workers in distress.
Similar to the Prajavani programme, the Pravasi Prajavani will be held for two days in a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays. Present at the inaugural were State Planning Commission vice-chairman Dr G Chinnareddy, MLC Jeevan Reddy, retired IFS officer Ambassador Dr B.M. Vinod Kumar and PCC NRI cell Chairman Vinod Kumar and convener Mandha Bheem Reddy.
Speaking to the media, minister Prabhakar said “Several people go to Gulf countries looking for employment. This grievance redressal program will help them solve their problems immediately.”
“We already have prepared a GO announcing an ex gratia of Rs5 lakh for people who die in accidents in the Gulf nations, and we are allocating seats in gurukulas for the children of Gulf migrant workers”, he added.
Speaking about awareness, Prabhakar said “People are deceiving innocent workers and sending them to foreign countries. Those who go abroad for employment opportunities do not know the laws there. They should be made aware of the laws and rules of the countries and companies.”
