Hamali union decries labour law dilution
S. Balraj criticised the previous BRS government for failing to implement wage hikes that were due every two years. He noted that even the Congress government approved the wage increase only after a seven-day strike.
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Civil Supplies Hamali Workers Union has accused the Centre of diluting 29 out of 44 labour laws, which were secured through long struggles, to benefit corporate interests. Addressing workers, union general secretary S. Balraj criticised the previous BRS government for failing to implement wage hikes that were due every two years. He noted that even the Congress government approved the wage increase only after a seven-day strike.
Balraj condemned the Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation for attempting to break the strike by bringing in outside workers, a tactic he claimed was rarely used even by private employers. He emphasised that the strike was carried out legally, with a 14-day notice, and that any attempt to disrupt it was unlawful.
He urged the state government to build its own godowns at mandal centres to prevent revenue losses. Additionally, he demanded the immediate payment of pending wages for workers involved in the export and import of fortified rice.
