Harish demands probe into money role in MLC elections

Rao alleged that Congress party candidate for the Mahabubnagar local body MLC elections, T. Jeevan Reddy, had spent huge sums of money to influence voting

HYDERABAD: Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that Congress party candidate for the Mahabubnagar local body MLC elections, T. Jeevan Reddy, had spent huge sums of money to influence voting, and these sums distributed to MPTCs and ZPTCs were allegedly offered amounts ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh for their votes.

“These shocking details were revealed by senior Congress leader and vice-chairman of the Telangana State Planning Commission G. Chinna Reddy in Wanaparthy. This being the case, why is no central investigative agency, such as the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation, Income Tax department, and the Election Commission silent on this blatant case of election malpractice,” Harish Rao asked.

This, he said, was a clear example of the secret understanding between Congress and BJP which rules at the Centre, and demanded immediate action, for cases to be filed and a thorough investigation into the allegations.

Harish Rao also said the Congress revealed its double standards on the Land Regularisation Scheme. “When the BRS government implemented LRS, Congress leaders like Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, and Kodandaram called it an anti-poor and incited public anger. After promising fee-free LRS, Congress hiked the LRS fees and started forcefully collecting money from the people.

He urged the public not to pay LRS fees, reminding them of Congress’ promise to provide it for free. “If people refuse to pay, Congress will be forced to fulfill their promise,” he said.

The BRS leader also called on voters to exercise their franchise in the MLC elections thoughtfully, calling on them to reject both BJP and the Congress.
