HC adjourns defection issue
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Monday heard two petitions filed by the BRS seeking a direction to the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly to act on the applications in which party MLAs had requested him to disqualify the defected MLAs Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkat Rao and Kadiam Srihari.
Padi Kaushik Reddy and K.P. Vivekananda filed the petitions alleging that the Speaker had not given time to take the disqualification applications submitted by them and even he had not given time to them to explain the issue.
Advocate General A. Sudharshan Reddy argued that the petitions are not maintainable and they are liable to be dismissed on the ground that the petitioners sent their disqualification petitions through registered post on March 30, 2024 and in 10 days, they moved the High Court. “It is a premature move for political mileage and it is an abuse of the procedure,” he said.
Further, the Advocate General submitted that the Supreme court had clearly said that the courts cannot give directions to the Speaker.
The High Court adjourned the hearing to Thursday.
