HC Directs Govts Response on Implementing the Amended MV Act Rules

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday issued notices to the Centre and the state government in a PIL seeking implementation of the amended rules of the Motor Vehicles Act, 2019 which imposes strict action against all those who drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drugs, resulting in the death or injury.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao was dealing with a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Ramanjeet Singh, an IT professional from Gowliguda. He also requested the court to direct the state government to comply with Section 206(4) of the amended MV Act, which allows the officer concerned to seize the driving licence of the driver who is caught a second time driving a vehicle without helmet, triple-riding, using multi-toned horns, among other violations.

The bench made it clear that the PIL was for a good cause and took the cognisance of it. The court directed the Centre and the state government to file their contentions within four weeks.
