HC Dismisses Petitions of Engineering Colleges
Hyderabad:Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy of the Telangana High Court dismissed the batch of petitions filed by several engineering colleges seeking directions to conduct fresh mop-up round of Eapcet counselling.
CMR College and other colleges filed the petitions challenging Section 20 of the Education Act and sought other reliefs like directions to the state government, commissioner of higher education, JNTU and others for fresh mop-up counselling by notifying all the courses offered by the petitioner-institutions with the full intake capacity as sanctioned and approved by AICTE and JNTU.
They requested the court to direct the state government to notify and permit admissions.
It must be noted that the division bench headed by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe had on Wednesday heard the issue of Section 20 of the Education Act and declared that the provision is intra vires and not inclined to interfere.
Later, the division bench transferred the petitions to a single judge bench to deal with other reliefs sought by the colleges.
Following that, the single bench, headed by Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy heard the petitions and dismissed the pleas of the colleges on the ground that the admissions are already completed and the course for the academic year had commenced on August 19. The court was not inclined to grant interim reliefs sought by the petitioner colleges.
