HC issued notices to govt and KNRUHS on local quota for PG medical admissions
Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the state government and Kaloji Narayana Rao University for Health Sciences (KNRUHS) to submit their contentions on a petition filed challenging the provision of reservation for local candidates in the admission of postgraduate medical courses for 2024-25.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao was dealing with a petition filed by Dr S. Satyanarayana and Dr Rajitha, who challenged the validity of Rule VIII(i) and (ii) of Telangana Medical Colleges (Admission into Postgraduate Medical Courses) Rules, 2021.
As per the said provisions, admission to 85 per cent of the seats will be reserved in favour of the local candidates in relation to the local area as provided in the Andhra Pradesh Educational Institutions (Regulations of Admission) Order, 1974, as amended from time to time.
KNRUHS said that a candidate, who has secured admission to the relevant undergraduate course (MBBS) under non-local quota in Telangana, will not be considered as a local candidate. Further, it is mandated that the candidate should have passed MBBS or equivalent degree examination from a medical institution in Telangana or Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada.
The said provisions were challenged by the petitioners. The court directed the state government and KNRUHS to submit their stand by November 12.
