HC Seeks Info on Manufacture of Sponge Iron

Hyderabad:A division bench of the Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, on Tuesday directed the government to appraise the court on whether the industrial units manufacturing sponge iron in agricultural fields are still operating or not.

The bench was dealing with a writ petition filed by T. Veerander Reddy and others challenging the action of the government in permitting the private industrial units to establish their units for manufacturing sponge iron in agricultural fields of villages of erstwhile Mahabubnagar district without obtaining permissions under the Air and Water Pollution Act.

The bench, while observing that the writ petition pertains to the year 2005, directed the additional advocate general to get instructions on whether the industrial establishments were still working or not and adjourned the matter to the week commencing September 2, 2024.
