HC to Hear Contempt Case Against Govt

Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court on Monday agreed to hear a contempt case that has been filed seeking action against the state government for violating the earlier orders of the High Court directing that immersion of plaster of Paris idols of Lord Ganesha in the Hussainsagar.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, adjourned the case to September 9 and asked the government to file its response.

Advocate and social activist Mamidi Venu Madhav filed the case seeking a direction to the government to implement the directions issued on 09-9-2021 by the High Court.

Madhav said that despite the order, it had decided to immerse the PoP idols in the Hussainsagar and was installing cranes around the lake. Government counsels objected to Madhav’s petition and complained that he was harassing by filing several rounds of litigation.

The court commented that it was not expressing doubts on the conduct of the petitioner, but expressed disappointment at him for approaching the court at the eleventh hour, which was tantamount to blackmailing the court.
