Heavy Rain Lashes Telangana; Yellow Alert Issued

Hyderabad: Karimnagar district bore the brunt of relentless rain on Friday, turning roads into rivers and causing severe waterlogging. This pattern of heavy rainfall was echoed across several districts in Telangana.

A yellow alert has been issued for Hyderabad and surrounding districts, including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

The Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) recorded the highest rainfall within Hyderabad at Patancheru, at 61.5 mm by 8 pm. Quthbullapur and Golconda also experienced heavy rainfall, at 45.8 mm and 42.8 mm, respectively.

Meanwhile, Chowdhary Ramesh, a farmer, died after being struck by lightning while was taking shelter under a tree in his agriculture field in Kerameri mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district on Friday.

Narayanpet, Mulugu, Khammam, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Bhadradri Kothagudem, also registered widespread rainfall, contributing to disruption of daily life.

The undivided Medak district area also faced its share of heavy downpour with Medak town witnessed over an hour of continuous rainfall. Motorcyclists struggled to navigate through the flooded streets, with many vehicles getting stranded or swept away by the force of the water.

In Hyderabad, Friday's downpour followed a stormy Thursday night, with residents waking up to a humid morning that quickly gave way to overcast skies and heavy showers by evening. The city reported substantial water stagnation in various neighborhoods, leading authorities to issue warnings for residents to stay indoors unless necessary.

In Hyderabad, the monsoon has brought 369.6 mm of rainfall since early June, marginally above the average of 363.3 mm. Only Nampally recorded a substantial 438.7 mm against its usual 361.7 mm, while other areas in the city have stayed within normal limits.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers for the next few days, with occasional intense spells and wind gusting up to 40 kmph. A yellow alert has been issued for Hyderabad and surrounding districts, including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

The IMD has also predicted that all zones of Hyderabad, including Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally, will experience a cloudy sky with intermittent rainfall over the next five days.

Elsewhere, rainfall is expected to continue in multiple districts, with significant attention on areas that have already seen excess rainfall, among these being Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagital, Peddapalli, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.
