Heavy rains created havoc in erstwhile Warangal
Warangal: Heavy rains created havoc with inundation of low-lying areas, causing interruption to vehicular movement with floodwater from lakes and tanks overflowing onto roads along with cancellation of several trains from Kazipet to Vijayawada with damage to railway tracks here in erstwhile Warangal district.
Of the six districts present in the erstwhile Warangal, Mahabubabad was worst affected followed by Warangal, Mulugu and Jangaon districts.
A father- daughter duo, identified as Nunavath Mothilal and Ashwini, travelling in a car got swept away in floodwater along with their car that fell from the Purushothama Gudem bridge with water overflowing from Akeru wagu in Maripeda mandal of Mahabubabad district. A fisherman identified as Narasaiah who went for fishing on Saturday was swept away in floodwater.
An RTC bus heading towards Mahabubabad from Vemulawada with around 45 passengers was stranded for over 10 hours from midnight on the outskirts of Thopanapalli village in Nekkonda mandal. After rains subsided, a lorry driver rescued all the passengers by taking them in his lorry to nearby village Venkatapuram. District collector Sathya Sharada along with other officials appreciated the lorry driver and shifted the passengers to a rehabilitation centre at Mandal Praja Parishad school.
The South Central Railway cancelled 28 train services because of the damage of the railway track between Mahabubabad and Thallapusala pelli railway stations.
With water entering into houses in Ravirala and Thallapelli Sagar villages of Nellikudur mandal, people climbed on to their buildings and urged officials to rescue them.
Uprooting of trees at several places on the national highway between Warangal and Khammam caused heavy traffic jam. With trees falling on electricity wires at some places, people faced problems with no power supply right from Saturday night.
Water overflowed from Bhadrakali Lake in the heart of Hanamkonda city. NTRS Nagar and Sai Nagar colonies were inundated with floodwater due to overflowing of water from Bondi wagu in Warangal city.
Residents faced a lot of hardship in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet with floodwater overflowing from drains and entering into houses. The police placed barricades on roads at places where water was overflowing from lakes and tanks.
Officials established control rooms in six districts and urged people to be cautious while travelling and not to venture out until rain subsides.
