HMWS&SB Launches 90-Day Drive to Boost Groundwater, Improve Sewage

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is set to launch a 90-day special drive from October 2, with a focus on boosting groundwater levels and improving sewage management with a priority to make Hyderabad both cleaner and water-rich.

HMWS&SB managing director Ashok Reddy, sharing the plan, stated that the drive will aim to find lasting solutions to water shortage and sewage overflow. Speaking at a workshop attended by senior officials and local managers on Friday, he noted that a large number of daily complaints relate to sewage issues and said that up to 40 per cent of these could be addressed through better awareness and management.

Ashok Reddy also highlighted the city’s increasing reliance on water tankers during the summer last year as there was less groundwater. He requested people to build rainwater harvesting pits to prevent a recurrence.

Board executive director Mayank Mittal stressed that the public evaluated HMWS&SB’s performance based on how well water supply and sewage issues are handled, rather than by large projects.

Senior officials V.L. Praveen Kumar and Jala Satyanarayana presented strategies and measures for the campaign, aiming to bring about significant improvements in Hyderabad’s water and sewage systems over the next three months.
