HMWSSB to Develop Sewer Lines at Bagh Amberpet Road no.15

Hyderabad: Officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) have prepared an estimate budget of Rs 14.5 lakh and sent it to the higher authorities for the development of a sewer line at Bagh Amberpet Road No. 15, following a report titled ‘Bagh Amberpet residents fume at supply of contaminated drinking water’ published in these columns.

Vishnuvardhan Rao, deputy general manager of HMWS&SB, Amberpet, told Deccan Chronicle that a 150-mm diameter sewer/drainage line will be developed along Road No. 15.

“We have sent an estimate to the higher authorities. It will take a month for this to happen,” he said.

On what the actual problem was, the DGM said, “The sewer line is almost 20 years old and house service connections have become rusty. We have rectified the problem. The sewer connection was broken because of which water got polluted.”

While the work is yet to be completed, for now, the board has disconnected the old GI connections.

“We have disconnected the old connections and carried out desilting of the old sewer line. We have also established a wall that scours out all the waste and cleans the water. We turn it on for 5-10 minutes at 4 am,” the DGM said.

“Apart from that, many individual sumps have been damaged. It will take a month or two to fix all problems. For now, we have been carrying out chlorine checks of the water every day,” Rao said.
