Hussainsagar Boat Fire: BJP Leaves Kin of Ajay, Other Victims in Cold

Hyderabad: A 21-year-old engineering student lost his life and the BJP did not bat an eye. Ajay lost his life on Republic Day when a boat carrying firecrackers erupted in flames in Hussainsagar during the ‘Bharat Matha Maha Harathi’ event organised by the Bharat Matha Foundation. Despite the presence of Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and the Union minister and BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy at the event, there was no word of condolence or empathy from the ruling party.

On Wednesday morning, Ajay’s family protested outside Gandhi Hospital, where his body was taken for postmortem. Their pain was compounded by the sheer lack of response from Kishan Reddy, who appeared unmoved by the tragedy. The body of the young student, found after a grueling 48-hour search operation, was met with silence from the party, leaving the family feeling abandoned in their time of desperate need.

While an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh was promised unofficially later that afternoon, it came far too late to ease the grief of a life lost too soon. “A life snuffed out too soon,” one X user wrote in response to the heartbreaking visuals of Ajay’s lifeless body. But what stings more than the tragedy is the apathy shown by those in power.

Former MP B. Vinod Kumar expressed dismay, questioning the BJP's failure to act sooner. “The BJP should have taken notice of the incident and offered support to the grieving family at the earliest,” he said adding “Even now, they must show their commitment to the family’s genuine demands and offer more than just empty promises.”

The BJP's indifference is not only evident in their neglect of Ajay’s life but also in their silence about the five others who were injured in the fire, including the boat operator who died on Tuesday due to 100 per cent burns. The lack of support, both emotional and financial, for those affected by the incident is a stark reflection of a party more concerned with political optics than with the real lives shattered by such tragedies.
