Huzurabad BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy Booked for Obstructing Official's Duty

Karimnagar: The Karimnagar police have lodged a criminal case against BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy under the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act 221 and 126 (2).

He was the first MLA against whom a case was lodged on the second day of implementation of the new criminal laws in Karimnagar district. The charge was that he obstructed the district collector from performing her duties.

It all started with Kaushik Reddy conducting a review meeting with the Mandal Education Officers (MEOs) to discuss issues pertaining to the education department in Huzurabad constituency without intimating the higher authorities.

Following this, district education officer Janardhan issued transfer orders to all the MEOs who attended the meeting.

Expressing his anger on the DEO, Kaushik Reddy along with the BRS ZPTCs staged a dharna in front of the podium at the ZP meeting held in Karimnagar demanding that the government suspend the DEO from services.

When Congress floor leader Ravinder along with others tried to question Kaushik Reddy, a heated argument took place between the BRS and Congress leaders. For more than half an hour, the BRS leaders did not allow the ZP meeting to continue.

Even when district collector Pamela Satpathy promised that she would look into the matter, Kaushik Reddy and BRS leaders did not listen and continued the dharna.

When the collector decided to leave the ZP hall, Kaushik Reddy and other leaders obstructed her way and demanded that the collector suspend the DEO immediately.

The collector, with the help of security personnel, left the ZP hall without attending the meeting.

Meanwhile, the chief executive officer of the Zilla Parishad, Srinivas, lodged the complaint with the police saying the MLA and others created hurdles in the way of the collector. Following this, a case against the MLA was registered under the new criminal law BNS act 221, 126 (2).
