Hyderabad: 1,458 Motorists Booked for Drunken Driving on NY Day

Hyderabad: In a joint operation conducted by the Cyberabad and Rachakonda police, 1,458 motorists were booked for drunken driving from December 31 night to January 1 morning. The Cyberabad traffic police booked 839 motorists for the drunken driving, whereas the Rachakonda police registered 619 cases.

Altogether 49 teams were deputed by the Cyberabad traffic for conducting the checking drive. Of the 839 offenders, 685 were two-wheeler riders, 18 were three-wheeler riders, 131 (four-wheeler drivers), and five were heavy vehicle drivers.

In Cyberabad, 366 persons had the alcohol reading of more than 100 mg/100 ml of blood, 24 had more than 300 mg/100 ml and four of them had more than 500 mg/100 ml reading.

In the Rachakonda commissionerate, the highest number of persons booked was 124, followed by 108 in LB Nagar. The LB Nagar division had 232 cases and 230 cases were booked in Malkajgiri division, the second highest compared to other divisions. In the Cyberabad commissionerate, the majority of the cases were reported from RC Puram, Madhapur, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Narsingi, Alwal, Jeedimetla, and Medchal.

Out of the 639, 262 were youths, aged between 21 and 30 years, the highest of all. A couple of teenagers, aged 18, were booked for the drunken driving too. Around 526 offenders were two-wheeler riders in Rachakonda, while 26 were three-wheelers, 64 were four-wheelers, and three were truck/lorry drivers.

For the blood alcohol content (BAC) in the commissionerate, 297 had BAC levels of 51-100 mg/100 ml, while only three went beyond 300 mg/100 ml. However, no women were caught for the drunken driving during the checks.
