Hyderabad: 3 Held for Cheating Public over Qurbani Shares

Hyderabad: The Habeebnagar police on Wednesday arrested three persons for defrauding public by falsely promising to deliver shares (hissas) of Qurbani during Bakrid. Police seized Rs 23 lakh worth stolen property from the accused.

The accused identified as Mohd Naseer, 30, a resident of Bahadurpura, Mohd Zafar Ahmed, 29, a resident of Bandlaguda Jagir and Mohd Ashfaq, 27, of Sun City. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by Abdul Bari Rehan, a resident of Aghapura, who reported the fraud after not receiving the hissas he had paid for.

In his complaint, he mentioned that he paid Rs 28,000 for 10 hissas to Khidmath Foundation being operated by Nisar Ahmed in New Mallepally.

“The foundation promised to deliver the hissas on festival day. Despite the payment, the shares were not delivered and numerous others also reported similar issues after paying through Gpay, Phonepe and cash,” police said.

Based on a complainant by Abdul Bari, police registered cases and took up an investigation.

During probe, it was reported that the accused had created a fake app under the name of Khidmath Foundation in 2024 and collected large sums of money from individuals, promising to deliver Qurbani shares on Bakrid. “They collected Rs 2,800 per share from individuals. They managed to deliver only 500 out of 2,179 promised shares, leaving over a thousand customers cheated,” the police added.
