Hyderabad Airport Sets Record With 87,000 Fliers in One Day
Hyderabad: Hyderabad has witnessed the highest growth in terms of passenger traffic among the top five metros in India in April-September, compared to the same period in 2023, according to data provided by the Airports Authority of India
Hyderabad recorded an 11.7 per cent increase in passenger traffic, followed by Bengaluru (10.1), Kolkata (9.4), Delhi (7.4), Mumbai (5.4), and Chennai saw 3.3 per cent more fliers.
The Shamshabad airport connects 72 domestic and 18 international destinations and handles nearly 20 lakh travellers to the USA and UK.
In October, AAI said, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, handling nearly 25 lakh passengers, a 22 per cent increase over the same month. This growth was seen across both domestic and international sectors, with domestic passenger traffic rising by 22.7 per cent year-over-year and international traffic by 16.3 per cent.
On October 14, the airport set a record accommodating 87,000 passengers in a single day. Additionally, RGIA managed 17,553 aircraft movements during the month, reflecting a 19 per cent growth compared to the previous year.
Passenger traffic at RGIA has more than quadrupled from 80 lakh in financial year (FY) 2021 to 2.5 crore in FY2024. This is a yearly growth rate of 45 per cent.
