Hyderabad: All 17 Musi bridges to get fresh lease of life
HYDERABAD: As part of the Musi rejuvenation plan, the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (MRDCL) is engaging consultancy services for assessment of the existing condition and structural stability of all the 17 bridges on Musi River starting from Gandipet in the west. All required repairs, rehabilitation and strengthening measures will be taken up after the assessment report, along with suggestions, is submitted.
Meanwhile, Tippu Khan, Bapughat, Puranapul and Chaderghat are some of the bridges where repairs and structural strengthening will be undertaken.
“The consultant will conduct non-destructive testing for immediate restoration measures. Scaffolding of girders, diaphragms, bearing regions and piers will also be repaired as part of the task. The boundaries will be fenced wherever required,” said a MRDCL official.
He further said that works will be handed over to consultants who have at least 25 years of experience in restoration of flyovers, major bridges and the likes.
In addition to strengthening the existing bridges that are located within the ORR, the corporation will also fix stake out points using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) survey equipment with the available data on the river boundary and buffer.
According to MRDCL data, in addition to creating thriving ecosystems, improving water quality and preserving natural habitats, the riverfront development will also drive tourism, attract businesses and create jobs for local communities.
