Hyderabad among top 5 cities for working women

Hyderabad: Hyderabad has been ranked among the top five Indian cities for being the most inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities for working women, said a study conducted by a private firm. The city has scored the highest in infrastructure, and women have rated Hyderabad high for safety, skilling and employment opportunities.

The Avtar Group, a workplace culture consulting firm, announced the results of the ‘Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI)’ index on Wednesday. The index identifies role model cities and best practices that enable women’s progress. The top 10 cities are Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Gurugram, Coimbatore. South India emerged as the most gender-inclusive region, with 16 south Indian cities featuring in the top 25 on the list.

The index was compiled by assimilating various data sources including the Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE), the World Bank, crime records and Periodic Labour Force Survey, along with Avtar’s primary research. Avtar’s research included Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) and a nation-wide survey conducted from February 2024 to November 2024 in which 1672 women from 60 cities participated.

State-wise analysis showed that Kerala had the highest average 'City Inclusion Score' of 20.89, followed by Telangana at 20.57, Maharashtra at 19.93, Tamil Nadu at 19.38 and Karnataka at 17.50.

For skilling and employment, Gurugram ranked highest with a score of 7.68 out of 10 by women. Mumbai (7.60) and Bengaluru (7.54) followed closely, while Hyderabad (6.95), Chennai (7.09), and Thiruvananthapuram (5.51) were slightly behind.

Hyderabad shined in infrastructure with a score of 8.01, for its well-connected public transport system and other travel amenities. It was closely followed by Mumbai (7.64).

Among smaller cities, Coimbatore (7.75) and Kochi (7.41) also scored highly in this category.

Thiruvananthapuram (7.43), Mumbai (7.19), and Hyderabad (6.95) were the top-rated cities for safety, with women rating Bengaluru (6.17), Kochi (6.02), and Gurugram (5.60) comparatively lower.
