Hyderabad: The Gachibowli police said on Thursday that they had arrested an assistant director for allegedly raping a 25-year-old software engineer.
The woman filed a complaint with the Gachibowli police accusing the director of raping her multiple times after which a case was registered and he was arrested on Wednesday, police said.
According to Gachibowli circle inspector Anjaneyudu, the victim hailed from Andhra Pradesh and was working in the city.
She got acquainted with Siddharth Varma, an assistant director, through a mutual friend.
The accused, who is from Visakhapatnam, claimed that he was a director, though it was only recently that he had started doing a short film (for a streaming platform), a police official said.
Siddharth started luring her by saying that he would give her a role as a film actress and would make her hang out with him, the police official said, quoting from the complaint.
“He started mixing alcohol in her cold drinks and started giving it to her,” the inspector said. “From what we got to know from the victim, he has raped her twice or thrice. The last incident happened a month ago, after which, she lodged a complaint with us on July 30.”
