Hyderabad: Congress Criticises BRS for Suppressing Student Voices at OU

Hyderabad: Criticising the erstwhile BRS government for suppressing student voices, MLC Balmoor Venkat said, “For 10 years, Osmania University (OU) was turned into a fortress under the BRS rule, silencing students and unemployed youth. The Congress has restored dignity and justice to them.” He made these remarks while unveiling a poster at the OU on Tuesday, announcing a grand public meeting to mark one year of Congress governance. The meeting will be held on December 21 at OU, with TPCC president Mahesh Goud as the chief guest.

Venkat said the Congress government had prioritised job creation and transparent governance, filling 58,000 posts in its first year — something the BRS government failed to do. “We are working tirelessly to support the unemployed,” he said. Venkat also pointed out the neglect of the university during its centenary celebrations, accusing the previous regime of failing to honour the institution.

Telangana State Library chairman Dr Riyaz joined him saying that Congress has brought the freedom back to the people of Telangana. “Under the BRS rule, OU was a site of repression. Congress has ensured justice for the unemployed, conducting exams like Group 1 and Group 2 transparently. Initiatives like the Skills University will further enhance job opportunities,” Riyaz said.

The December 21 public meeting is expected to see participation from ministers, MLAs, MLCs and student leaders. Organisers called on students and unemployed youth to attend the event and express solidarity with the Congress government’s developmental efforts.
