Hyderabad Creates 98% of New Jobs in Telangana

Telangana added 3.12 lakh jobs in 8 months; Nizamabad emerges biggest loser.

Hyderabad: Telangana has generated more than 12.59 lakh jobs, averaging 2.5 lakh a year, from 42,82,977 in 2021-22 to 55,42,709 in 2025-26, according to the latest data released by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The figures are based on the Pradhan Mantri Vikasit Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY)-linked EPFO data released by the Central government.

The data highlights a steady expansion of formal employment across the state, with a sharp acceleration witnessed in recent months. Of the total jobs added during the five years, 3.12 lakh were created in just the last eight months, indicating a surge in hiring activity and economic momentum.

The EPFO data reveals that Hyderabad and its three neighbouring districts — Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri and Sangareddy — have emerged as the primary drivers of this employment growth, contributing 98 per cent of the total additions.

Hyderabad, the state’s economic hub, saw the number of EPFO-linked jobs increase from 24,15,288 in 2021-22 to 31,39,220 in 2025-26 — a substantial rise of 7,23,932 jobs. Rangareddy district registered impressive growth, with employment figures rising from 7,40,666 to 11,43,910 during the same period, reflecting an increase of 4,03,244 jobs. The district’s proximity to Hyderabad and its rapid industrial and infrastructure development have contributed to this surge.

Other districts in the state have also shown encouraging growth, but comparatively on a smaller scale. Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded an increase in employment from 1,40,860 to 1,99,132, adding 58,272 jobs over five years. Sanga-reddy too posted gains, with employment rising from 2,62,022 to 3,12,304, an increase of 50,282 jobs.

Karimnagar witnessed growth from 78,783 to 93,326, adding 16,543 jobs, while Warangal’s employment numbers rose from 52,425 to 65,595, marking an increase of 13,170.

Nalgonda district also saw a steady rise, with jobs increasing from 66,880 to 77,770, adding 10,890 positions. Khammam posted a modest improvement, with employment going up from 44,231 to 46,105, reflecting a gain of 1,874 jobs.

Defying the trend, Adilabad and Nizamabad have reported a decline in organised sector employment, pointing at regional disparities in industrial growth, indicating the need for targeted policy interventions.

Adilabad saw the number of jobs fall from 30,639 in 2021-22 to 29,009 in 2025-26, a dip of 1,630 jobs. Nizama-bad recorded a more significant drop, with employment declining from 4,53,183 to 4,36,338, reflecting a drop of 16,845 jobs.
