At around 10.20 pm, Pranav was reportedly driving at 110 kmph when he lost
control of his vehicle and rammed into the two-wheeler on which Dinesh Giddi
(35) and Mona Bai (32) were heading home. Mona died immediately while Dinesh succumbed on the way to a hospital.
The car dragged the couple for a small distance before coming to a halt. It
also hit four other road-users. The four injured persons, Md Arbaz, Md Javed
Ali, Naheem and Akhtar, were admitted to a nearby hospital and later
discharged after their condition was found to be stable.
Other motorists rushed to help the victims. They caught hold of Pranav and
called the police, who took him into custody.
The deceased couple have two daughters, aged 10 and 12. Mona Bai, who had
just returned from Goa, had promised to spend time with the children before
stepping out with her husband.
Speaking to the media, their elder daughter said, “My mother spoke to me and
left and just ten minutes later I got a call from my aunt. I could
understand that something wrong had happened with my parents. When I reached there, I saw the bodies of my parents in an ambulance. Nobody cared.
Everybody was busy in their own world. Nobody was doing anything.”
Zubair, an eye-witness said, “The incident happened right beside me. I had
stopped my bike to wear a mask and the next moment I see the car hit the
couple.” He said Mona Bai died on the spot but Giddi was alive.
“We called the ambulance, police, but for 35 minutes nobody turned up. We
finally put them in a vehicle and took them to the hospital,” Zubair
alleged. “The doctor told us that had we shifted him a little earlier, he
would have survived.”
