Hyderabad: The owner of Varalaxmi tiffin centre was arrested on charges of rape in Gachibowli police station limits.
According to Gachibowli circle inspector Anjaneyulu, the case was registered eight months back, against Prabhakar Reddy, the owner of the eatery, after a woman filed a complaint against him. The arrest was made on Saturday evening by the Gachibowli police.
According to Anjaneyulu, Prabhakar Reddy, who is married, was allegedly in a live-in relationship with another woman. The woman, who belongs to the Dalit community, alleged that Prabhakar Reddy cheated on her and had made false promises of marrying her.
In the process, the woman alleged, he also raped her, the CI said.
As a result, a case was registered against Prabhakar Reddy in January under charges of rape and various sections of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act
Incidentally, Prabhakar Reddy was arrested on September 12, 2023, for smuggling drugs like MDMA and cocaine from Goa to the city. During that time, cops had seized drugs worth Rs 14 lakh, Rs 97,500 in cash, three cars and five mobile phones from their possession.
Police sources also said that the complainant was also an accused in the drug case in 2023.
